Ontario Barrister & Solicitor Indices 2022-2023
The indices provided here are designed for the Barrister & Solicitor exams taking place in July 2022, November 2022, and March 2023. A hand-picked group of students has invested countless hours in creating these high-quality indices under the supervision of two Ontario lawyers. These indices are available for purchase on our website, and you can preview them through our sample pages.
As an added benefit, we are including some of our charts, such as a timer sheet and a timeline chart for both barrister and solicitor exams, completely free of charge. However, it is your responsibility to verify the accuracy of these charts, as they have been updated by volunteer students and are provided as a bonus to you.
Pre-Release Information:
Our index goes through three phases of testing. You can learn more about each phase by reading our blog post on quality control. The Pre-Release version is not the official index, but it allows you to download and explore the index while studying. If you discover any discrepancies, please let us know. Our team of students will also conduct phase III testing for the index. The deadline for submitting corrections is June 1st. In case we make corrections, we will send you an updated version of the index. Typically, phase III testing involves fine-tuning the index, so major updates are unlikely. The Pre-Release version is locked for editing and printing since we anticipate receiving corrections. Some students have been disappointed when we released updates after they had already printed the materials. To avoid such situations, printing is disabled until phase III testing is completed.
What Sets Us Apart:
We take pride in having our founders and team prominently associated with our products.
Community Contribution:
We are the only company that welcomes contributions from the community. If you wish to participate in phase III testing, purchase our index, and suggest corrections or additional entries. Our team of lawyers will review and include relevant contributions in the final version of the index. The cutoff date for community contributions is June 1st. We recommend sending all your suggestions in one email instead of multiple emails. Please email corrections to corrections@lexpd.ca.
What's New in the Barrister Only Indices:
Our students have diligently updated the indices, removing outdated terms from the LSO materials and adding terms to new sections and those previously missed. Unlike other groups with hundreds of volunteers, we keep our group small to maintain consistency in our terms and indexing style. The Barrister Only Indices cover PR, Civil Litigation, Criminal Law, Family Law, Public Law, and include indices for the appendices (Rules of Professional Conduct and the LSO Bylaws). The indices will be delivered to you via a unique download link in electronic PDF format only. The download will contain a zip file that you will need to extract.
The indices for the Barrister materials consist of approximately 664 pages, with each page labeled with either the letter "A" or "B." "A" represents the left-hand column of the LSO materials, and "B" represents the right-hand column. The professional responsibility index is identical for both barrister & solicitor exams, as the page numbers and sections of the materials are the same for that topic. Therefore, you will need to print this index twice. However, the by-laws and rules of professional conduct are identical in both barrister & solicitor materials but appear on different pages. The index will have one column for barrister page numbers, represented by the letter "B," and another column for solicitor page numbers, represented by the letter "S." The rules of professional conduct index will contain the letters "T," "M," and "B," indicating references to the Top, Middle, or Bottom of the page.
Instructions for Unzipping Files:
For PC users, to unzip a single file or folder, open the zipped folder, then drag the file or folder to a new location. To unzip all contents of the zipped folder, press and hold (or right-click) the folder, select Extract All, and follow the instructions.
For Mac users, uncompress (expand) an item by double-clicking the .zip file.
Fine print:
We have invested significant effort to ensure the accuracy of the indices. However, due to the scale of the project and the involvement of multiple contributors, it is impossible to catch every single error. As a user, it is your responsibility to have a good understanding of the material to effectively navigate through the indices and exam materials. By purchasing the indices, you acknowledge and accept the risks associated with using materials prepared by others, and you agree that Lex Professional Development Group Inc. will not be held liable for any errors. If you come across any mistakes in the work, please contact us at corrections@lexpd.ca, and we will update the materials for the benefit of other students.
The indices are sold under the condition that they are not to be shared or distributed in any form or fashion. For more detailed information, please refer to our Terms & Conditions page. Your purchase grants you a license to use the indices for your personal use only. Please note that prices are subject to change without prior notice.
